Since you have never been together, and you have never had time to really enjoy the strip, I would recommend staying at Paris. It is right in the middle of the strip, close to all of the action, and it will be very convenient to get out and do things together.
Although, Paris is one of the moderately priced hotels on the strip, so you could probably find one cheaper that is still on the strip. Here are some ideas ( I like to save money anywhere I can, but not at the expense of staying off-strip).
Excalibur from $41/night
Luxor from $55/night + extras
MGM Grand from $69/night
Monte Carlo from $59/night
New York- New York from $56/night
There are many more here-
Here is a map to see the locations of the hotels

It is a very nice Hotel with a show every hr. or so, Just like being in New Orleans, with the music, acts and beads etc. You will have more to see and do, if you stay there, and you will be close to the strip also. They have very good food served there, It is a very exciting and busy hotel. I am sure you will love it. Have a good time.

Not sure of what days you are staying but I found the Orleans to be $100 a day cheaper. That would be worth it. Taking a shuttle would be a pain after awhile. You have to use their schedule and drop off and pickup points. If you stayed on the strip you could walk to and from your hotel. From what you said at $40 a day savings I would stay on the strip though you might check other propertie. You can try …
for some good prices and they do not charge fees because you do not book with them .. they just find the deals on other sites.
Before I moved here I would stay at Palace Station and use their shuttle but I had to live with their schedule. Stay on the strip if you are not driving .. if you had a car I would recommend the Orleans.

The Orleans is a nice hotel a couple of miles off the Strip on Tropicana Ave. It has a New Orleans Mardi Gras theme. It’s casino is good sized and it has quite a few very good restaurants. The buffet is tasty, the cafe good and reasonably priced, and it has an Oyster Bar, a New Orleans themed restaurant, a prime rib place, a sushi bar, and various fast food restaurants like Subway and Seattle’s Best Coffee.
They have a good entertainment too. On the upcoming calendar is Gladys Knight, The Temptations, Alice Cooper, the Osmonds, Dana Carvey, the Smothers Brothers and Neil Sedaka.
The Orleans has a spa, a movie theater and a bowling alley. Has everything that the Paris offers but much less expensive and if you stay there you will see lots of locals because it’s a popular place where the locals go.
Since there is the shuttle to the Strip, I would say you could save some bucks and still see all the sights Vegas has to offer.

Orleans is a local favorite and that means better comps for gambling when using the Players Club card. They have entertainment, very nice buffet, bowling, movie theatre, and the rooms are mini suites with a couch. As locals we stay there when we have had our carpets cleaned, etc. as well as family staying there.
The Orleans is on West Tropicana, about a mile plus maybe two from NYNY and the Strip. I do not know of any shuttle but just called the Orleans’s 800 number and ask. For the money savings and since you are not big gamblers, Orleans would be fun. They have great penny slots and low minimum compared to the Strip at tables.

I am sorry I have to disagree stongly on the Orleans particually when comparing it to Paris its rather like comparing a BMW with a Hyundai (paris being the Rolls).
I did not stay in Orleans but have visited, firstly its off strip then its smoky full oc locals and just does not have the Vegas feel. I fyou cancel Paris and stay at Orleans whatever you do dont visit Paris or you will realise that you madea terrible mistake.

It all depends on what you want from your Las Vegas trip.If you want the full in-your-face Las Vegas experience then don’t stay at the Orleans as it is not on the strip and therefore doesn’t have the wow! factor of the strip hotels.
Do stay at the Orleans if you want a clean, comfortable room and a slightly more laid back experience. That doesn’t mean to say that the Orleans is dull – far from it – the casino is lively and has a good vibe about it and you also will find a good swimming pool, plenty of places to eat,a cinema, bowling alley, spa, fitness centre, children’s centre, video games room, showroom and a alcohol store.Oh did I mention the very good room rates?
Also there is a free shuttle service every 20 minutes or so which gets you right to the heart of the strip in about 10 minutes!
I am from the U.K. and will be going back to the Orleans this September for the third time as we like it that much. It’s all down to your perception of your Las Vegas experience – we don’t want to pay twice as much for a strip hotel when we can be there on the shuttle in 10 minutes anyway so it’s your choice just don’t expect the same level of luxury that you would get at the more expensive hotels on the strip.
Please email me if you need any further details.

Orleans is very mediocre off strip hotel. The Orleans not nearly as “showy” as the hotels on the strip, and they don’t have the amenities that other hotels have.. I would call the hotel and see how frequently their shuttle runs. Taxi’s/ car rentals are not cheap. Orleans dining options aren’t the greatest.. Personally, I believe vacations are some of the few times a year you are allowed to splurge a little. Paris is a great location, and you and you wife you have a beautiful, romantic dinner at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant. If the total cost is $200 more for the entire trip, stay at the Paris.
